Yahoo! Answers: How does high temperature affect the performance of long distanc - Sports
| Yahoo! Answers: How does high temperature affect the performance of long distanc I was running a marathon in high temperature (30 degrees Celsius +) and my time was really awful. I felt heavy and easily exhausted, gasping for air. I have been a long distance runner for years and was well prepared. Dehydration was also not the problem (I think) since there were water stations every 2 km and, in addition, I was carrying a Camelback with a 3 liter content. Can somebody give me an explanation why the body does not perform as well in high temperatures in endurance sports? Is there a rule which would establish a relation between temperature and marathon time? In additon, it was not only hot but also very humid (over 90% humidity). |
